SWEDISH CARE INSTITUTE
SCI is a gateway and a network for Swedish services and products within the fields of the disability and elderly care.
SCI is formed by The Swedish Trade Council and The Swedish Handicap Institute. Support has also been given by the Swedish government.
Background
Sweden experienced earlier than any other country the so-called age explosion, i.e. the proportion of the population over 65 years is rapidly increasing. Also, relative to the population, more women in Sweden work outside their homes than in any other country. Japan is brought up against the very same situation.
To meet this, Sweden has at an early stage developed and enlarged services in child care and in elderly care and has procured an unique experience. We have found solutions to the challenges that Japan now is facing.
Within the elderly care, the Swedish development of group living homes for persons with dementia has implied a structural revolution. Persons that were kept at institutions for long-term treatment of different kinds, are now given a worthy old age.
Sweden is a leading country regarding disability care. Persons with disabilities including persons with more severe disabilities have their own apartments or houses and are able to live independently thanks to accessible buildings and environments, assistive technology and services.
Since long Sweden has advanced research in these areas and the results are continuously put into practice.
Now Sweden wants to share its experiences and knowledge in these fields. Therefore The Swedish Handicap Institute and The Swedish Trade Council has formed The Swedish Care Institute.
Swedish Care Institute (SCI) is an association within the fields of Swedish elderly and disability care.
The tasks of SCI are:
- To give information and knowledge of the Swedish concepts within the fields of elderly and disability care; the entirety as well as the separate parts
- To create and build up contacts with interested parties in Japan and in Sweden
- To be the Swedish interested parties´ jointly plattform
- To build an active network of qualified parties in Japan and in Sweden
